When the first lockdown began, I had plenty of time on my hands, so I decided to use it to write a book and see if I could realise my dream of self-publishing.

The result is All Downhill From Here, a lighthearted, humorous, but sometimes poignant read, telling the story of my very first big cycling adventure from John o' Groats to Land's End, with my great friend Simon, back in 2007.

Because I've always had a job helping people and lockdown had temporarily prevented me from doing so, I knew I wanted to make it useful. I decided to include a second part about how you can take on the famous Land's End to John o' Groats ride, or other similar multi-day challenges. It's jargon-free and deliberately not technical. Why? Because I wanted it to be useful to anyone who's always fancied taking on an epic challenge like this, even if they’ve not had much experience of riding a bike.

I truly believe that anyone can conquer the challenges of their dreams and I hope that those who read the book find it both entertaining, but also helpful in fulfilling lifelong ambitions!

Please do give it a look or share it with anyone you know who has a love of bicycles and adventures.

Reviews

I have read many cycling adventure books and put a few aside as I struggle through them but Paul’s account of his trip is up there with the best. Very informative, humorous, well written but most of all, in my view, a genuine nice bloke on his bike doing what we all dream of.
It is the genre, “I could not put it down until I finished”. Look forward to the next one Paul.

Having completed LEJOG in 2011 and having read this excellent book I could empathise with events on every page. If you are contemplating doing this epic journey then this book is a must. Added to that you get a real feeling of actually being on the journey with Paul and the crew.

Here are a few photos from the ride. WARNING: Some very dodgy cycling shorts on show! ;-)

And here’s the moment I received my proof copy of the book. As you can probably tell, I was very excited to be self-publishing for the first time!
